Mexico's Greatest Hits
Mar 28, 2011
One of the best parts of our vacations in Mexico is the food. Since our focus here is on Iowa food, I thought I would make a separate section for our posts on Mexico so just those that are interested could read about our trip. This little island, 5 miles long by a 1/2 wide, serves up some of the greatest food we've had anywhere. There are so many great restaurants that it was hard to choose which one to try next. So here's our Mexico's Greatest Hits of food!
Huevos Rancheros
Shrimp Cocktail
Breaded Fish Fillet
Breakfast Cazuela
Pollo Torta - Chicken Sandwich
Chile Relleno
Breaded Fish Fillet
Garlic Shrimp
Pork Chunks
Breaded Fish Fillet (can you guess what Amy's favorite food is?? It was sooo good)
Mixed ceviche
Chicken Tacquito
Grilled whole red snapper
Beef, green pepper and onion pizza
Fredy's pork chop - it's the best on the island
Like I said, we had some great food. More detailed posts will be up soon, but that's a quick tour of the best dishes we had during our 2 weeks in the Mexican caribbean. The seafood was unbelieveably fresh and everything was so flavorful . We'll be adding a section soon if you'd like to read more in-depth posts on our trip to Isla Mujeres so... more to come!

I see pics of some of my Isla favorites here!
Thanks for stopping by, Laura! I'll bet you can probably even tell WHERE we ate all that food. We've been going to Isla Mujeres since 1993 - absolutely love that place.
So hungry now! Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, you've just inspired me to get some good fish tacos. To bad it won't be on Isla Mujeres. Cheers!
I'm going to add a link to your Mexico food to my site if you don't mind, my customers love looking at and dreaming about Isla food!
Thanks, Laura! I'm working on trip reports too that I'll post here. There will be a "Mexico" button on the navigation bar if anyone would like a bit more in depth view of our trip. If I didn't have to go out to eat and drink all the time I'd be done already! Ha. Thanks again.
I can relate! :) Thanks Amy!
Pretty food. The huevos rancheros and the chile relleno get my taste buds excited.
So... where are those chicken taquitos from? They look absolutely, mouth-wateringly delicious! I'm planning my next trip to Isla (only 5 months away) and planning my meals is one of my favorite parts of the trips. :o)
Hi Suzanne! We had the chicken taquitos at Fayne's - they are awesome. I make it a point to eat there at least once during our 2 weeks on the island specifically for the chicken taquitos. I hope they don't ever take them off of the menu. I know just what you mean about planning your meals - we do the same thing! Thanks for stopping by.
Do you have time to post the different places you ate these fab looking dishes? If not, at least let me in on the chili rellano's, they look to die for. Thanks! We have only eaten at Jax on the island as we are usually time restricted.
Hi Kristen! I'll try my best to remember where the food came from! Huevos were at Amigos, right on Hildago. The shrimp cocktail and first breaded fish were from Minino's, right down from the ferry dock. The cazuela was at M & J's. The pollo torta was at Alex y Geovanny's in the market across from the Hotel Las Palmas. The Chili Rellano and the next breaded fish were from La Lomita, just up the street from the square. Garlic shrimp, pork chunks, and more breaded fish from El Veradero, mid-island by the lagoon. The ceviche, tacquito, and snapper were at Fayne's. The Pizza was from Amigo's. And of course, the pork chop is at Fredy's. We like Jax, too, but hope you get to try some different places next trip!
I was just scrolling through the pictures and thought some of them looked & sounded familar. I reached the bottom and realized they were from Isla Mujeres! We've been twice and I'm currently trying to work out another trip SOON!
Hi Phyllis! Sorry, I just saw your comment - I hope you get back to Isla to eat all that delicious food soon! We're trying to plan another trip as well, we sure miss the food.
